And What If...2

... you DO get offered the job!

OK! You've done it! Well done! Time for a well-earned celebration. All the hard work has paid off. You're on your way to bigger and better things. BUT... when you've gotten over the euphoria just step back and reflect for a short time because you are possibly about to commit to a life-changing event and you had better be doing it for the right reasons.

Realisation

They're either going to make you an offer or they have already done so. Once you have THE FULL OFFER ask yourself

  • Is it as you expected it to be?
  • Are the salary and benefits as you were led to believe?
  • Are the conditions of employment OK? No surprises?
  • Is the offer made subject to references?
  • Is there any gun to your head e.g you must accept or start by a certain date?

And, if all is OK...

Ask yourself - is this really the job you want?

It may sound strange but sometimes people get this far and realise that they were really doing it to prove to themselves that they could get another job if they needed to. Or that the one they have is not so bad after all. Or that by getting another offer they have acquired bargaining power with their existing employer to get a better salary for instance.

Well done again if you have been offered the job. That's achievement! All I am saying is  - take a step back and make sure that if you accept and burn your bridges with your present employer you won't live to regret it.

No reason that you should. Just be certain. That's all.
